Blues Jukin' Workshop
What is blues?
Blues dancing is a family of historical dances that developed alongside blues music. There are several styles of blues dancing, and this workshop focuses on Jukin' Blues. JUKIN' is a cool style, come connect to the music & have a conversation with your partner. We'll rotate in class (no partner required). Then, join us at Blues socials for social dancing on 1st & 3rd Thursdays!
WHEN: Blues Jukin' Workshop -Sat April 21st - No partner or previous experience required.
SCHEDULE: 2 - 4pm: Focus on movements the first hour, then we'll partner up the second hour for a true BLUES conversation with your partner.
Cost: $25/per person (pre-register) or $30/per person (at the door)
Who can join: At least 4 weeks of previous Blues experience required. We are an inclusive Blues community & love new people to join. Let's grow our Salt Lake City Blues dance community!
More details: Jukin' is a sub-style of blues dancing that was danced in juke joints, house parties, and other small spaces. Because of the limited space, it evolved primarily as a spot dance, with limited traveling. Movements tend to be more sharp and punctuated, with a lot of emphasis in the hips. Join us for WORKSHOP on April 21st to explore juke style movements both solo & partnered.
What is South State Blues Social?
South State Blues Social is a chance for true blues dancers to spend an evening dancing to the best blues music & djs (or live music) in the spacious, beautiful Grand Ballroom. On 1st & 3rd Fridays, we usually hold a class at 8pm taught by some of the best dancers in the community & then keep the Blues tunes rollin' until 11:30pm.
