Bachata is a Dominican music-and-dance tradition designed for real social spaces—backyards, community gatherings, celebrations, and dance nights. UNESCO’s cultural description highlights bachata’s roots as a lived community practice, not just a studio style.
Dominican bachata is commonly performed by small groups with guitars out front and percussion like bongos and güiro. It developed through Dominican social history and drew from earlier circulating genres including bolero and related Caribbean influences.
Traditional/Dominican-focused bachata is often experienced as a footwork-forward style with a strong sense of rhythm and hip movement. You’ll learn to hear clear musical phrasing, keep your basics clean, and make your partner connection feel comfortable and confident.

Pick 2–3 songs, keep your basics clean, add one footwork option, and prioritize connection. That simple loop builds real confidence quickly.
If you want faster correction on timing, connection, or footwork control, a private lesson can help. Ask the front desk what options fit you best.
This workshop is Level 2+ (intermediate). If you’re brand new, you’ll likely get more value starting with Level 1 classes first. You can check options on our schedule.
No partner needed. We rotate respectfully to help everyone improve connection and adaptability.
Comfortable clothes you can move in, and shoes that allow easy pivots/slides without sticking. Water is always a good idea.
This workshop focuses on Dominican-traditional fundamentals: timing, footwork options, and partner connection for the social floor. There may be moments of close connection (as in many partner dances), but the training emphasis is not sensual performance movement.
Join us for a welcoming, community-focused workshop built to help intermediate dancers move with more clarity, rhythm, and connection.
